Chem 112-Lab Day 1

1-We went over the first part of aromatics.
2-Please do the rest of the titration calculation questions. on the reverse side of the page do 3, 5
3- Your assignment on titration curves is due tomorrow. Please try to submit today for bonus marks.
The answers for #45 is 0.0735mol/L, #44 is 0.204mol/L and #46 0.126 mol/L.

Please do sheet 3 on cyclics and aromatics for tomorrow. Also do p 707 #20-25(will be assigned tmro)
We went over more interpretation of titration curves. Please draw a titration curve for the one endpoint and two endpoint example from the notes(oxalic acid + sodium hydroxide). The Titration curve assignment due tomorrow.
You received 19.4 handout today. This will be due on thursday.
Chem 111-We spent some more time on stoichiometry. You did 1,2 from the handout(tiny sheet)
I introduced Lewis electron dot diagrams and structural diagrams.
Homework: Please do #4-5 from practise page on stoichiometry. Please try#7 from the homework. p 220 #8, p 225 #9-11(text ques are for Thursday)

1-We completed aromatics, then went over ortho , meta, para isomers. Please do sheet 3 and the left column of the handout that has an assortment of naming and drawing the structure(Practise with all families)
2- Please review the lab for tomorrow at UNB. Do not forget proper footwear and safety conscious clothing.

I went over Law of Conservation of mass, coordinate covalent bonds and resonance structures,exceptions to the octet rule, sigma and pi bonding today and did a homework check. We will have to complete ionic/molecular. We went over #8 from your handout. We also overviewed polar and non-polar .

Chem 111- I finished some theory from yesterday during today's class and did a homework check. During the last part ofclass you worked with stoichometry and the Law of Conservation of mass with a group.

You started to work on the Solvay assignment.We will have to complete bond dissociation energy,ionic/molecular/dispersion(dipole/ dispersion and hydrogen bonds) and intermolecular forces like van der waals forces, dispersion forces and hydrogen bonding as well as comparing the strength of the intermolecular forces with actual bonds by examining mica.
Reminder: You have a test on Unit 5 on friday of next week. We will have a quiz next monday on stoichiometry. Assigned work:p 239 #30-31

Chem 112- Period 4-You did Day 4 of Labs Chem 112 classes received a weekend assignment that is due next monday.

Chem 122-You will have a test on Ch 22 next wednesday. We will continue on with the organic halides and the ethers......... today. The last half of class you will do some work with 5 step problems(postpones to monday and tuesday) with a partner as there is one of these questions on the test.

Chem 111-You worked in partners on mol/mol stoichiometry(monday) and the solvay process(class research)was submitted today p 244 # 32 to 38. We went over some solutions to #8 from the practise sheet.

Chem 111-Today we went over #7 and I assigned 8 a to f from the handout. This reviewed Lewis electron dot diagrams and structural diagrams. I also talked al little more about about polar versus non-polar. We practise some isomers of C6 H6 and then you got into pairs to construct structures of heptane. Homework : p 229 15 to 21 and p 225 #9 to 12



You received three assignments so far. They are both due monday: titration curves and 19.4 for p3 and 22.5 for p2

I did a homework check on the green sheet #2 and #3 today. We will go over phenyl, benzyl and isomers ortho, meta and para for benzene. I also gave you a list of some common functional groups to study. Period 2- 22.5 is due tomorrow. Period 3- 19.4 is due tomorrow.

Period 3 and 2 Graphing assignment is due on monday.

You received an assignment on 22.5 today(period 2).


Chem 111(semester 2) Chem 122students If you are attending the field trip on May 16 th, I should receive your permission form by May 11 so that I can type up a list with information for the school board and UNB. There is a copy of the permisssion form below. We went over 8.1, 8.2, Coordinate covalent bonds,bond dissociation energy, resonance, sigma bonds and pi bonds. I went over the assignment that is due on monday as part of the mole contract. Since we went over the project we only had time to spend on drawing isomers of C7H14. The next work was not completed.
